What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?

I think that becoming an Architect now is more difficult than it has been during my lifetime. There are many more hurdles whilst standards – witness Grenfell Tower linked comments – have (perhaps because of a subordination to Commercial Interests) become much lower than, say, the old London Building Acts; a standard that we all used to work to.

Grenfell Tower should have been much, much better.

Grenfell Tower was originally intended to be the hub of a new Lancaster Road North Kensington Village. However it was decided by the Kensington Council of the time that a solution of less expense – therefore quality it was perhaps inevitable – to the whole project was what was needed with, eventually and as we all now know, disastrous consequences.
